Concert Review

This show was truly one of the most memorable Dave shows, and having come on the heels of two outstanding concerts at the Sit 'n' Bull, that's saying something. However, it wasn't all good stuff. First of all, this club is in a densely built up urban area and it is next to impossible to find parking. But the main problem with this day was the rain. Coming down in sheets. The Raving Dave Fans attending this show (and there were many, since Boston is a hotbed of Kinkdom) were huddled around the door begging to be let inside, but the really nasty doorman didn't even consider it. One young fan was so drenched she visited the convenience store across the street and picked up a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt so she'd have something dry to put on once inside.

However, once we got inside things improved. The crowd, numbering in the hundreds, was the best crowd I'd been in yet at a Dave show. They were so loud it sounded like a Kinks koncert. The stage was big enough for Dave to move around, and high enough to see from the back. There's plenty of room to stand in front of the stage, but also plenty of seats that you can actually see from. No restrictions on picture taking, either. The show itself was smoking; Dave is using a particularly good set of songs on this tour.

I don't think the building itself is in very good condition, since there were a few leaks from the roof. Dave Jenkins, over on the right side of the stage, glanced at the ceiling a few times with a look of worry: "hope I don't get electrocuted."

The opening band were called Virgil Caine; they featured a stylish bass player named Jenn Oberle. After the gig Dave Jenkins told me that he had let her borrow some of his equipment when hers was malfunctioning. I just love it when musicians help each other out like this.
