Review

The best thing about tonight was the look of surprise on Sal's face when he saw me and Concert Going Partner come in. Club owner Ted Epstein had just called Sal a day or two earlier to see if he could fill in at the last minute for an act that cancelled, and Sal, in his usual helpful way, obliged. He called on his friend, singer/songwriter Julie Dougherty, and her bass player, Woody Woodward, to give him a hand. And I just happened to check the Bull's website and saw that they were playing.

As to be expected, it was a pretty loosey-goosey set. Sal and Julie traded off lead vocals. She has a great voice with some jazz elements, but when you play a gig with Sal Baglio, you'd better be ready to dig deep into the history of rock 'n' roll. Sal and Julie had some fun with the audience playing "who wrote this song?" trivia. The musical highlight of the night may very well have been Julie's heartfelt rendering of "Triad," followed by an audience member's declaration: "David Crosby."
