Review

Concert Going Partner and I have seen NRBQ, the band from which Joey Spampinato got his start, and decided we'd like to check out the band that he's in now with his brother, Johnny. And how could we resist a gig at the Bourne Scallop Festival? It was a beautiful day, and we ate scallops, and rode on the ferris wheel, and were in a completely good mood by the time the music started.

The band is a lot like NRBQ in many ways; they play good time music with a smile on their faces, especially Joey, whose face must have hurt by the end of the show, he was grinning so consistently. They played a few songs that originated with NRBQ and a few covers, and songs from their new record, Pie in the Sky. There was a small but enthusiastic audience who had purposely come to see them (one fan was wearing an NRBQ t-shirt), and a lot of folks who were at the festival and dropped by to see the band. I can't imagine anyone was disappointed; they frolicked through a thoroughly enjoyable 75 minute set. We liked them enough to buy their CD on the way out, with a promise to check them out again the next time.
