Review

For the second time in three shows, we saw a completely unfamiliar performer who was delightful in every way, and we look forward to seeing again.

Will Dailey is a singer/songwriter/guitarist with all the chops. His songs were tuneful, lyrically rich, and tinged with a bit of a vintage vibe. He alternated between two electric guitars and added harmonica on a song or two.

He had a list of songs in front of him, but it became clear this wasn't a set list in any way, when he started to solicit requests from the audience. This show was part of the Spire Lobby Series, where chairs are set up outside of the main venue and there is room for a smaller crowd (capacity 70). It was apparent that most of the crowd was familiar with Will's music. Between songs he told some stories about the songs and his experiences performing them, and he was profound and witty by turns. Extremely entertaining!

After the show we picked up two CDs from the merch table. He was also selling a t-shirt with the slogan: "This shirt makes music." Meaning, of course, that an indie performer like Will needs to fund his musical endeavors in creative ways. He sometimes performs with a full band, and I'd very much like to hear his extensive catalog performed with the higher energy provided by a band.
