El Vez ~ 2002 December 8 ~ Middle East ~ Cambridge, MA
Concert Review
El Vez is one of the many performers with whom Kristian Hoffman has worked. He is one of the co-vocalists on Kristian's current album &. When Concert Going Partner and I saw he was coming to town for a Christmas show, we jumped on the chance to see the "Mexican Elvis" in person.
What a fun concert this was. El Vez sings a variety of Tex-Mex, salsa, and south-of-the-border flavored songs, with a spoonful of the real Elvis stirred into the spicy mix. There's an occasional serious theme dealing with the plight of migrant workers and other social issues. El Vez wears a pencil-thin moustache and is a lady-killer, a heart-stealer, a lover of women! If you go to the show, and if you're female, do try to be in the front row because you will get some attention! He changed his clothes a number of times to increasingly outrageous costumes as the night went along. It was all done with such good humor, the entire audience was singing along, laughing along, and stamping their feet in time to the music. Do check out the photo gallery to the right for a couple of snapshots of the front row adoring fans!
Accompanying El Vez were a thoroughly accomplished rock band and a pair of lovely female singers, The Elvettes, whose harmony vocals were very beautiful, and with whom Elvis flirted shamelessly all night long.
