Review

Shoe Suede Blues is the band that former Monkee Peter Tork has played in for a number of years. He is the bandleader but other members of the band also take lead vocals on numerous songs. The set list includes a generous number of Monkees tunes which all were great singalongs: "Last Train to Clarksville," "Daydream Believer," "Not Your Stepping Stone," "I'm a Believer," and a great song the very existence of which I had forgotten in the passage of the years, "Auntie Grizelda." Much of the rest of the set consisted of familiar blues and rock tunes such as "Sea Cruise" and "Route 66."

Peter is an excellent keyboard player and guitarist and is still a heartthrob after all these years. (Of course the audience is older, too.) The Sit 'n' Bull was packed to the rafters with an appreciative and singing-along audience.

Back in the day, I'm sure The Monkees had young women who travelled around with them. Well, there were four young-ish women who spent much of the show dancing off to the side of the stage, and to all indications each of them was especially friendly with one of the members of the band. It was entertaining to watch them.

RIP to Peter Tork, who passed away in 2019, and to guitarist Richard Mikuls, who passed away in 2008 (a year after this concert). Richard was an excellent guitarist and singer who was a major component of the musical excellence of this evening.
