Review
The Lizard Lounge is a pretty small nightclub (capacity about 100) down a flight of steps, located on Mass. Ave. just north of Harvard Square. There is no stage, but a big open area with plush-looking Oriental rugs gives plenty of room for a 4-piece band. It's a nice place, clean, with small round tables clustered in a horseshoe around the performance area, giving a theater-in-the-round sort of feel. Western Massachusetts' most famous Silvertone virtuoso brought his band tonight, but he also brought a pretty bad head cold. He had to stop for breath a few times after songs, and there were some audience members who encouraged him to cut it short and go home. But the guy's a pro, and he forged onward, saying that in fact the rock 'n' would cure what ailed him. Once all was said and done, Ray was feeling much better, and the audience was treated to a delightful set from this quartet of likable guys who happen to be very talented musicians.
The show was opened by Rocky Velvet, a 4-piece rockabilly band, all of whom wore jeans with rolled-up cuffs and black Keds. They were very good.
