Review
The Circus came to us. Well, at least they came to Cape Cod; Truro is a long way from our home at the lake in Bourne. But it felt to Concert Going Partner and me like we had home field advantage for this show.
The Payomet Arts Center is down an obscure side road off the main highway in this artsy lower Cape community. Easy to miss, hard to find. Once found, it's in a familiar location. Just a mile or so south of the renowned Highland Light, and adjacent to the big round ball, the Truro Radar Test Site, a futuristic looking installation that seems completely out of place in this serene windswept Cape Cod landscape.
The venue itself is in a tent with ground stone for a floor. The rows of seats slope up steeply away from the stage, so everyone has a good view. The stage was big enough for the five musicians and their extensive array of gear. The ticket policy was a little odd; you could buy a regular priced ticket, which entitled you to general admission anywhere from the fourth row back, or you could, for a somewhat higher price, buy a premium ticket, and you could sit anywhere in the first three rows. Since we had the premium tickets we settled in to the front row between Joziah and Sharkey. I particularly enjoyed watching the interplay between Sharkey and Orien in this show; they were both enjoying themselves and sharing the microphone for singing. Orien takes after his mother since he is a true multi-instrumentalist, playing bass, keyboards, and harmonica (sometimes on the same song!).
