Jill Sobule ~ 2010 October 15 ~ Me & Thee Coffeehouse, Marblehead, MA
Review
The Me & Thee is a Unitarian Church coffeehouse venue with the performance space right in the church, the right kind of place to see a concert. But it's in out-of-the-way Marblehead, Mass. To pronounce the city like the locals put the stress on the last syllable: mar-ble-HEAD. Anyway, it was a torturous drive around the city of Boston to get there, and then we got so lost trying to escape Marblehead after the show I'm surprised we're not still there! I usually get lost going to concerts in Somerville, or anywhere in New Jersey; you can add Marblehead to that list.
The music made it all worthwhile. The opening act consisted of two singers, Raina Rose and Rebecca Loebe, who were very cute, wrote entertaining songs, and played their guitars and sang very well. They sometimes perform as a duo but have their own solo careers as well. It's always such a bonus when you get a good opening act.
Jill Sobule came on dressed in a one piece dress with a big peace symbol on it. Jill always has great stage clothes. She was trying out some new songs, and asked for a volunteer to hold up her lyrics. I did it, but Jill has recently started putting her lyrics on a laptop instead of just bringing printouts, and that computer got a little heavy! It was fun, but since I was on stage for much of the show I didn't get many pictures and I don't have a reliable set list, although she played a lot of my favorites, including It Was a Good Life, The Rapture, Jetpack, Heroes, and the Bitter/I Kissed a Girl Medley. She has combined those two because she's not bitter that Katy Perry stole her song title and got a big hit out of it!
