Review
Grace Morrison is a local performer for me, since she is based in Wareham, Mass. just across the Cape Cod Canal from my abode by the lake. She is a folkie singer-songwriter with a very nice voice and a penchant for historically based song themes. Tonight she sang a number of her very touching original songs, including "Taking Johnny Home," a song dedicated to an uncle who suffered PTSD as a result of military service in Viet Nam.
Grace was accompanied by John Baptista on guitar and backing vocals. His voice blended very nicely with hers, and they even did a "romantic duet," before which Grace joked that she would find it embarrassing to stare into her co-vocalist's eyes the way a singer is supposed to.
Butch McCarhy, another local singer/songwriter, opened the show with a very entertaining 45 minute set of well-written originals and some covers of the Beatles and other musical icons.
The Sandywoods venue gets a big thumbs up from me. They encourage you to bring your own food and drink. A scattering of tables seating six were arranged around the room. On the walls was displayed a photographer's collection of images taken at concerts, mostly of jazz performers.
