Review
It's been the summer of Grace Morrison for me. This was my fourth time seeing this up and coming local singer/songwriter in the last six weeks. Each show has been pleasingly different from the others.
Tonight Grace had her two frequent accompanists with her, John Baptista (guitar) and Sam Babineau (fiddle). Since this was a free concert in a park, Grace chose to play quite a few covers from the rock 'n' roll era, giving the lead vocal to John Baptista on a few of them. She also played a selection of her own compositions, including songs from her recent album I'm the Apple. Grace is a wonderful singer with a voice like crystal, and her two accompanists sang spot-on harmonies with her all evening.
A substantial crowd turned out with their lawn chairs for this free show on a warm and pleasant Thursday evening in the shadow of the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge. The sun went down, the moon came up, Grace told a story about trying to get into a PG-13 rated movie at the former movie theater across the street (when she was only 12); when the train went by (with its loud whistle) she answered with a train song. Some children ran around and danced in front of the stage, the Boy Scouts worked the crowd selling popcorn, and all in all everybody had a splendid time.
