The Seventh Fire

Review

I first saw singer/songwriter/guitarist Kim Moberg at this same venue, two years ago when she opened for Grace Morrison. She's a skilled guitarist and has a lovely singing voice. Her one-hour set consisted mostly of originals, including a song that I absolutely love called "Angels Fly," and she ended with two covers including a beautiful rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," a song that any musician will tell you is not easy to play and sing.

Kim is a Tlingit tribal member from Juneau, Alaska, now living on Cape Cod. Her new album is called The Seven Fires Prophecy, in which she explores the legends of her tribal nation. She played the title song from this new album and I had the good luck to video this compelling, thought-provoking song (see above).

Kim was one of four performers who took over the pavilion for the day, as part of the Soule Homestead's Harvest Fair. In addition to hearing the music, Concert Going Partner and I took a ride on a hay wagon to a field where pumpkins were there for the picking. The kids on board this bumpy ride through the woods were such fun -- and then there were the two tractor drivers having a race! In general, it was a really fun family day, but it was hot! Southeastern Mass. has been in the middle of a late summer heat wave. The nonprofit Soule Homestead Education Center is a very interesting place (we've been to three concerts there) with lots of farm animals and lots of opportunities for school groups and the entire community to learn about the environment, farming techniques, and crafts.
