Review
Not that Truro is actually close to Bourne where I live, but what a treat it was to have the Circus play Cape Cod, for the first time in several years. I think somebody should have warned the booking agent, however, that Truro pretty much shuts down after Labor Day, which is not at all true any more of the mid and upper Cape. Although the audience was somewhat reduced in number from other times at this venue, which were closer to the heart of summer, the audience goers were genuinely enthusiastic.
Musically a bit leaner than the last time (keyboardist RJ had another commitment, he of numerous musical projects), I do confess I prefer the somewhat cleaner sound. It was cold in the Payomet tent, so I hope everyone brought a sweater, but the delightful image projections on the back of the stage were a wicked lot of fun. Everybody in the band was especially well dressed, especially Joziah, whose brilliantly colored jacket could have landed him in a '60s psychedelic band (this is a compliment).
Although they'd cut back some, since the last time I'd seen the band, on the songs from the "Good Thief" album (celebrating its 25th anniversary), it was a real treat to hear a brand new song, "Enemies of Love."
