Seventh Fire

Review

Always a treat to hear a folk concert on an afternoon while sitting in church pews. One can tell this longstanding Unitarian Church takes their be-kind motto seriously. It was very nice hearing Kim play with an accompanist, fiddler Heather Swanson, for just the second time. Heather added a real depth and texture to the music. Kim has a lovely singing voice, and she is a very good guitarist. She takes her music seriously, in the classic folk tradition. One song at a time, to make the world, or at least that afternoon, a better place.

Kim played a ten-song first set, her own songs, ending with her amazing cover of "Both Sides Now," then took a short break. A few of the new songs that will be on her album coming out in a couple of months show that she's branching out some, musically; I especially like the bluesy "Good Women, Cheating Men." The second set consisted of a few songs from her recent album "Seven Fires Prophecy," which draws its inspiration from her Indigenous roots. I especially love the song "Seventh Fire." Not listed on the setlist (photo below) is the encore song she did, "Sing It Loud" (which is available as a download on Kim's website).
