Do Something With Your Hair
Review These afternoon folk music shows in libraries sure can be fun. What sets Andy and Judy a notch above some of the others are two things. One is their upbeat, and sometimes history based, songwriting. "Everyday Things" is such a beautifully optimistic love song. "DJs" is about the personalities we all grew up listening to on our transistor radios before the conglomerates took over. "Whiskey Joe" and "I Try" are such easy singalongs you don't need a lick of musical talent to fit right in. "Cambridge Town," the one cover they did, reminded me of the times I spent as a young adult before I moved to Cape Cod. Oh, and the second quality this duo has that sets them above their contemporaries in the folk concerts in libraries circuit? That would be Judy's extraordinary voice, with vibrato that draws genuine comparisons to Joan Baez. Mashpee Library is a very nice concert venue. Located on Rte. 151, right before the Mashpee Rotary, about a fifteen minute drive from our house, with a large parking lot. The concert room is big enough to accommodate a pretty big crowd and it was almost full, and there was a photography exhibit adorning the walls. After a brief intro from an enthusiastic library employee, we were in for an hour of delightful folk music. What better way could there possibly be to spend a chilly, drizzly Sunday afternoon?
