Review

This band is celebrating 40 years in the music business. They're based out in western Mass. in the Northampton area and have played a series of anniversary shows closer to their home base, none of which we got to, but we like going to this annual daytime show at this relatively close venue. This band was playing Americana before the term was invented. Lyrically interesting, sometimes tongue in cheek, sometimes with a bit of a twang, always very listenable, without a hint of pretense, I've never heard a Lonesome Brothers song I didn't like.

Scott Hall only plays with the band occasionally, and over the years has put together a book with lyrics and chords for all the band's songs which he uses as a reference when playing with the band. This year they printed up some copies for sale, and we brought one home. A fun item for our musical library!

This venue is part apple orchard, part winery, and although only a few folks came specifically to hear the band, plenty of spectators who were here for other reasons stopped by for a few songs, and I like to think Ray and Jim may have impressed a few new fans with their affable presentation and thoroughly enjoyable brand of diesel therapy.
