Review

In past years Concert Going Partner and I have made a practice of traveling pretty good distances to see shows by our favorite performers.

But this year is different. Live music is just making a comeback after more than a year of no concerts due to the terrible Covid 19 pandemic. So, I can't say I'm too fussy about who I see; a fairly close, free outdoor show by a cover band sounds just fine.

And you know what? It was immensely fun to see this four-piece, very capable local band. Lead singer and guitarist Sarah Burrill lives in the town of Eastham; can't get much more local than that. I'd never been to this summer outdoor series at the Eastham Windmill Green, but it's a wonderful place to see a show. We got there on the early side, with a picnic, and set up beach chairs close to the stage. By the time the show started the green was filled with at least a couple of hundred concertgoers.

The four players were very good. Sarah was the lead singer, and her guitarist Randy sang lead on three numbers that needed a growly male voice. Sarah and Randy traded off lead riffs, and Sarah played harmonica on a couple of songs. The two leads were backed up by a bass player and drummer who were very good. Everyone on stage was having a lot of fun; who wouldn't after all this time? Sarah told some good stories about her favorite music, for instance, she talked about trying to peak under a Cape Cod-style boardwalk while introducing "Under the Boardwalk"; and for "Secret Agent Man" she claimed the riff from that song was the first thing she ever learned on guitar. They played a pleasing selection of familiar songs from the rock 'n' roll era.

The weather was just perfect, and the sound surprisingly good for a sound system in a gazebo. Toward the end of the show some small children started coming up and bouncing around in front of the gazebo, and they were soon followed by some adults who were happily moving around to the music.
