Review

On a beautiful summer evening in the shadow of the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge, a local four-piece band played a solid two hours of known hits from the 1960s through the 1980s. The band consisted of Jody Moore on vocals, a lead guitarist, bass player, and drummer. The drummer and the guitarist provided backup vocals, and they were all very good.

These local musicians put on a very good show. The musicians were all adept at their instruments. Jody sang extremely well. Two aspects of her singing deserve special praise. One, she enunciates really well. I was able to catch lyrics to songs that I've heard 100 times but never knew all the words. Her other stellar quality was she stayed Jody Moore. She didn't try to sound like Janis Joplin or Aretha Franklin or Debbie Harry. Her vocal style stayed Jody all night, and that was just fine. She obviously had a lot of fun, making a variety of expressive gestures and livening up the music with her outgoing stage presence.

The band included a mini-set of hits from the disco era, and they featured a number of 1980s female new wave songs, including numbers from the Go-Go's, Joan Jett, Blondie, and the Bangles. This band was intent on the music. Jody talked very little between songs. About the only thing she said all night was to announce the 50-50 raffle that was being held. This made for a very musically dense evening. They probably did at least 30 songs.

The large audience enjoyed this show a lot. There were several adults who danced in front of the stage for most of the show, and many children who happily ran freely around the green. At one point the Railroad Bridge span lowered to allow a train to cross. I believe it was a Thursday evening tourist train, since it sat at the Buzzards Bay station for a few minutes while folks got on and off, and then went back over the bridge to the Cape side.
