Review

This is the third time we've seen Beatles tribute band Studio Two at at this outdoor field in Abington, and it was the biggest, most enthusiastic crowd yet. Clocking in at a nudge under two hours with a short interval (as the Brits would call an intermission), this free concert showcased these four talented and upbeat musicians playing a staggering thirty-four songs -- if I didn't miss any while scribbling titles in my concert notebook. The songs ranged from the world's most familiar songs (She Loves You, I Want To Hold Your Hand) to some lesser-known tunes from a bit deeper in the Beatles' catalog (Leave My Kitten Alone, Besame Mucho). Everyone got their share of lead vocals, including Ringo, who had two leads, and you should have heard the shouts of approval from the crowd! The harmonies from this band are very good; next time I see them I will try to get a video of "Paperback Writer" so you will see what I mean.

The band is based in eastern Massachusetts and have a very busy concert schedule. They do travel a bit, so check their website to see when they'll be in your area. In real life John and George, who are the heart of the band, are twin brothers (Stephen and Rob Murray). Since I've been following Studio Two I've seen two different Ringos and three different Pauls, all of whom have been just superb. Everyone has a great stage personality, they all do good British accents, and I can believe that their stage banter is what you would have gotten from the real Beatles if anyone could have heard them over the screaming! Seeing this band is a treat both musically and in terms of just plain fun.
