Review

Two local singer/songwriters, Grace Morrison and Kim Moberg, put on a very pleasing show in the late afternoon. It was a very hot day, in the 90s, but fortunately this venue has relocated their concert space to a covered pavilion behind their main building. In the shade, with a moderate wind, the heat wasn't too bad. Kim opened the show and played 45 minutes, and then after a brief intermission, Grace played a set of about 1 hour 15 minutes. Grace sat in on keyboard on one of Kim's songs.

I've seen Grace Morrison quite a few times since I first heard her perform at the New Bedford Folk Festival in 2014. In the years I've been following her, I've seen her both solo and accompanied by various band setups. During those years she has gotten married and had a son, and she has always used her personal circumstances as inspiration for both songwriting and storytelling. She is very humble and often funny when discussing her personal circumstances, and she has a unique and beautiful singing voice. Grace is a joy to listen to perform.

I had not seen Kim Moberg, who opened the show, before. She is also a local musician, living in Centerville on Cape Cod, although she's originally from Alaska and is a member of the Alaskan Native Tlingit tribe. She played a very enjoyable set of about eight songs and told interesting stories about her life and the songs' origins. I very much enjoyed listening to her guitar playing; she is a very talented finger pick style guitarist.

The Soule Homestead is a beautiful place to see a show. It is located at a 130-acre working farm. The view of the hillside behind the musicians added to the visual appeal of the show. It's fun to take a few minutes before the show to roam about and visit with the farm animals, or wander through the beautiful flower gardens. The organization has a concert series during the summer featuring folk and other types of music once a month. They offer food (including yummy deserts), and greet concert goers with an enthusiastic smile.
