Review

The Slambovians visited the Broad Brook Opera House, Broad Brook, CT for the first time. It's an attractive old building with a ceiling shaped something like the keel of a ship. It's in an out of the way village in north central Connecticut in what used to be an old mill town. The venue had exceptionally good sound; I actually heard R.J.'s banjo for the first time. There were screens behind the stage for the Circus to project the light show accompanying their songs. Lighting was sometimes very good and sometimes a bit weirdly excessive, as you can tell from the pictures. The performance space is on the second floor. The usual faces were in the front row, seated at tables with parasols and cameras. One fan came with a stuffed toy bee which he brought up to Joziah to illustrate the song "Beez." We repeat fans certainly know how to enjoy ourselves.

A welcome addition to the set list was the reappearance of "Moondog House," which I hadn't heard since before the pandemic. It was good to hear "I Wish," too. Tink was having an especially good time. Since the date was close to St. Patrick's Day, she was having fun enjoying the season. It apparently was her idea that they play "Belle of Belfast City." When I posted the video to Youtube I described her part as tin whistle, vocals, dancing around, flirting, and general joyfulness.
