Catnip Junkies ~ 2026 June 29 ~ Wareham Free Library, Wareham, MA Video
Rhode Island
Review This band is nothing but fun. They play trad jazz and outrageously fun and twisted covers of known songs from the rock 'n roll era. The band consists of six musicians, five men and a woman who was the bandleader, lead vocalist, and mostly addressed the audience, although the other band members also liberally jumped in with remarks, and in some cases jokes. The woman's name is Beth and I did not succeed in retaining any of the other names. Sorry! They play trombone, trumpet, saxophone, tuba, banjo, keyboards, and a dizzying array of percussion instruments. They had a percussion station set up in the middle of the "stage," liberally played upon by the players of the trombone, trumpet, and saxophone when they weren't indulging in their principle instrument (and sometimes when they were), and sometimes Beth joined in. I wish I had taken a better look at this percussion station because it looks like it consists of a lot of common household objects like pieces of pipe. Beth also joined in on tambourine, whistle, and other various keepers of the beat, as well as joyously dancing around during the songs. I think the slogan on their tip jar pretty much says it all: "Relax. We're ALL crazy. It's not a contest." See this band if you can! It was a perfect night, in terms of weather, to start the Monday night outdoor concert series at the Wareham library, right across the street from where the Cape Cod Baseball League team plays. Don't forget to bring a donation to the food pantry, that being the "ticket" to the show.
