Review

This concert was called More Songs from the North Country, in celebration of Canada Day. Of these seven all-star Cape Cod musicians I am most familiar with Kim Moberg, whom I've seen in concert a number of times over the past several years.

This was not an "in the round" concert, with the performers taking turns doing songs; it was very much a band show with the musicians performing together as a unit, and they were a very solid unit. The familiar Canadian songwriters whose songs they performed included Sarah McLachlan, Bruce Cockburn, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Hank Snow, and Neil Young. I particularly enjoyed hearing Rachel Moberg's stunningly beautiful vocal on songs by Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell, and the band's CSNY version of "Woodstock" was really, really good. This band was folk when it needed to be but they rocked the house when they needed to. This was the second time this assemblage of musicians got together to cover songs from north of the border, and I hope there will be a third time.

The show was performed at the beautiful Wellfleet Preservation Hall in Wellfleet on the Lower Cape. We have seen a couple of shows at the downstairs stage at this venue, but this show was at the upstairs "stage" (no stage really, just a space at the front of the room). And no stage lighting; for the person with the camera (me), it was kind of like taking pictures in a closet, but I think they came out okay. You be the judge.
