Who's Raising Who?

Review

Grace Morrison grew up in Wareham, a town where my family also has roots, and has written numerous songs about her experiences with this coastal town. She sometimes jokes around about being the less famous celebrity from the town, ranking somewhere below actress Geena Davis. So it's a homecoming for her to play a free show at the library in Wareham.

Grace's one hour set consisted mainly of songs from her recent album, Saltwater Country, and a few unreleased numbers. She's a prolific songwriter, drawing from life experience and keen observations of the times we're in. She has a beautiful singing voice and accompanies herself on acoustic guitar. Grace's songs are folk, and pop, sometimes with a bit of twang, and are literate, sympathetic, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny. Due to the threat of rain, the concert moved indoors.

This show was highlighted by a performance (on "Country Roads") by her 7 year old son and two of his friends (the Child Buskers) and by her mother singing along on a somewhat provocative number. For no particular reason, we hadn't caught a show by Grace in over a year, and it was a true delight to catch up with this local favorite!
