Review

It's the holiday season, and the Circus performed a special Christmas show.

The Old Saybrook High School band were up on stage for a couple of songs, including "The Great Unravel," a particular favorite of mine. Those kids played some mean horns and it seemed like they really had fun doing it. I'm just sorry I couldn't get any better pictures. The thumbnail to the right is the best one I got of the high school band.

This venue, known as "The Kate" for short, is a big, tall, impressive looking community center with pillars. Inside it's a little Katharine Hepburn museum, with posters from her movies, a display case with some of her awards, and pictures of her haunts when she spent time in this elegant Connecticut coastal community. The performance venue itself was a comfortable auditorium with a good big stage.

The Circus had one of their best light shows ever, with falling snow and other winter motifs, which enhanced this holiday season show a great extent. The band performed a number of Christmas carols, some of which are normally not favorites of mine, but they did them with such good humor, sincerity, and respect for tradition that they were very enjoyable to hear. I'm not usually a booster of "gimmick" shows, but the Slambovian Christmas show is one that I'm in favor of. It was a totally delightful evening.
